WHAT IS AN ARTIST’S PROOF?
• An artist's proof (AP) is a print that is made before a limited edition of prints and is usually identical to the final numbered copies.
• Purpose: Artists use APs to assess the quality of the print, make final adjustments, and experiment with different color combinations. 
• Number: APs are usually numbered and separated from the limited edition group. 
• Rarity: APs are more sought after than other prints in the edition because of their rarity and small quantity. 
• Value: APs are generally valued higher than other prints in the edition and can cost 25% or more more than the limited edition. 
• Marking: APs are usually clearly marked as such, either with the words "Artist's Proof" or "A/P". 
• Artist signature: APs are signed by the artist, usually in pencil.
